Our experiential classes are designed to stimulate your senses and unlock your imagination. The intimate group sizes allow each person individual attention and the space to dig into the experience; however, we love to customize every experience for the size of your group.

The Amazing World of Bees

Experience the ancient magic of beekeeping through the lens of Beekeeper Mariah McDonald and the Carmel Valley Ranch Bees! The Amazing World of Bees will delight the imagination and the senses as you experience beekeeping at its fullest - from hive science demonstrations to honey extractions, and more. Each class will begin in the Organic Garden with a hive science discussion and demonstration, a visit to the Medicinal Herb Garden, and then we’ll suit up and head into the Apiary! New hive installations will closely draw the connections between plants and herbs, pollen and pollinators. Guests will finish up the class with a refreshing glass of Honey Lavender Lemonade and tastes of honey from specific hives, infused with the flavors of the herbs growing nearby.

Beeswax Candle Workshop

Create a custom candle using the natural bounty of The Ranch. We have a variety of mold shapes and styles to choose from. Select an essential oil—including our own Lavender Oil—and combine it with herbs and lavender buds harvested from our 7,000 lavender plants. Sink it all into a set of votives full of hot wax to create a beautiful personalized candle, perfect for your home. This is a fun and engaging activity that allows you to relax and spend some unscripted time creating a memory and a memento of your stay here at The Ranch.

Dig In! with Farmer Mark Marino

Join us for a hands-on organic gardening seminar, where you'll take a tour of the Garden, visit the Hen House, and spend time with veteran organic farmer Mark Marino. Get your hands dirty learning about composting and how to plan for and prepare a vegetable bed for seasonal plantings. Gloves and tools will be provided.

Beaded Jewlery-Making Workshop

Come relax and engage your inner mixed-media artist. We will provide beads in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes to inspire your creativity, and our instructors will guide you through the process of creating a beautiful necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings. This is an engaging and meditative experience that people of all ages and from all walks of life can enjoy.

Experiential Artisan Market

We want to connect you with the people who have helped put Carmel Valley Ranch on the map as an artisanal hotspot for foodies and crafters alike. In this At this event, you might make essential oil perfumes or lip balms with Beekeeper John Russo, explore the art of cheesemaking with Charlie Cassio, taste olive oil with the folks from Trio Carmel, blend a spicy sea salt from our own Salt House, or create beeswax candles, jewelry, or other hand crafts with our expert instructors. Choose as many stations as you wish to build your artisan experience—limited only to your imagination.

Foraging: The Wild Buffet

What wonders does the forest hold? Join our Naturalist on a hike around the property in search of the useful and edible plants all around us. Which common landscaping plant can be used to make a guava flavored jam? Which herb's tea promises wild dreams? Enjoy The Ranch's picturesque setting while you learn about the ancient art that is experiencing a renaissance with foodies around the globe. Cap off the hike with a taste of tea brewed from plants foraged along the way.

Organic Garden Tour

Where can you feed chickens, pick herbs, taste home-grown salt crystals, and discover how last night's salad sprouted to life? Join the Activities Artisans on a guided tour of the vegetable and flower beds, fruit orchard, hen house, and our own unique salt house to learn how we transformed the hillside next to the 10th Fairway into a fertile and sustainable culinary paradise.

Open to all our resort guests, the River Ranch features a 5,200-square-foot Fitness Center for individual workouts and a variety of group exercise classes. Two beautiful saltwater pools—an adult pool and a Junior Olympic-sized family pool—plus three hot tubs, a children's Splash Zone and playground area, bocce courts, Ping-Pong tables, a basketball hoop, fire pits, and children's Activity Cottage guarantee nonstop action for all ages. Tennis

Our eight tennis courts, located at the River Ranch, include six plexi-pave hard courts and two clay courts. World-class professionals from Peter Burwash International are available to assist in creating special tennis events, including tournaments, cardio tennis classes, and clinics customized to your group's objectives.

Private Group Fitness Classes

Choose from any of our regularly offered indoor or outdoor group exercise classes as a private experience for your group. Selections include traditional classes such as Hatha Yoga, Pilates, BODYPUMP, Indoor Cycling and TRX Training. Maximum number of participants may vary by studio size and equipment.

Outdoor Yoga

Experience a private outdoor yoga class in your choice of picturesque locations around our property. Choose from the River Ranch lawn, the Vineyard Lawn, or our Hilltop Yoga Platform which includes a short hike. Your group will be energized with the ultimate nature-infused fitness experience. Mats, towels and water are provided. The Hilltop Yoga Platform can accommodate up to 20 people; larger classes can be accommodated at the River Lawn or Vineyard Lawn.

Children's Programming

Does your group include families with children? The River Ranch Activities Cottage is home to our Ranch Hands Kids' Camp, Busy Bees, and Kids' Night Out programs, all designed by professional educators and delivered by our positive and fun-loving counselors. Ranch Hands Kids' Camp, for ages 6 to 12, features a blend of indoor and outdoor activities, including swimming, hiking, games, crafts, tennis, golf, music, and more and is offered in half- or full-day sessions. Busy Bees, for ages 2–5, allows little ones to enjoy a structured program of fun and educational activities on an hourly basis. Kids' Night Out, our evening program for ages 5-12, offers movies, games, Foosball, art projects, and more while parents enjoy grown-up time. Bocce Ball

A traditional Italian game of luck and skill! Suitable for groups of 4–30, our Bocce Ball courts at the River Ranch are perfect for an after-meeting reception or teambuilding activity. Reserve it "Tournament Style" for a more structured event, or select "Laid Back" if you just prefer to toss a ball around. Food and beverages are available through our Catering Department.

Tournament Style: $600 for 2 hours; $300 per each additional hour

Here at The Ranch, we celebrate the importance of Play to the human spirit, and we have developed a number of ways for a team to play together and bond. We also recognize that sometimes a team likes to dig a little deeper, in the quest for building the best working relationships possible. To honor both types of activities, and everything in between, we've developed offerings for both "Team Bonding" and "Team Building." We can also add high-level facilitation to any experience—just ask. Color War

The pinnacle of any summer camp experience and one of our favorite team-building events here at The Ranch, the Color War pits friends against friends and unites unlikely allies to build morale and energy. Participants are divided into color-coded teams and compete in a variety of challenges, ranging from a classic Dodge Ball tournament to relay races to a mini game-show to our Signature Cocktail Competition. The War is capped off with the always nail-biting all-team competitive race, customized to the desire of your group. Facilitated by our experienced Activities Staff, the customizable selection of activities brings your team together and helps you learn more about the personalities in your organization. Requires minimum of 2 hours. Includes prizes for the winning team!

The Ranch Race

An "Amazing Race"-style competition, the SIGNATURE RANCH RACE is a fast-paced event designed by our Activities Team to lead participants on a wild chase around The Ranch's 500-Acre Playground! Teams "travel" to different destinations around the property, using only a map of the Resort, their collective smarts, and a simple clue. Upon arriving at each location, they participate in a group or single-player challenge to gain points and earn a clue to the next leg of their journey. As with all of our team-building offerings, you will work closely with our Activities Team to create a customized event that will match your unique culture and objectives. Follow the event with an Awards Ceremony at your on-site dinner to complete the experience in Ranch Style! Requires a minimum of 2 hours. Includes prizes for the winning team!

Back-Country Obstacle Course

Hit the trails and work through a series of obstacles on this fun-run style fitness program. We begin near the lodge with a map directing the group to the obstacle course, where they will be greeted and briefed by our Activities Team. Obstacles vary in difficulty depending on the interests of your group and may include rope climbs, army crawls, and team plank obstacles. The event is highly customizable, and transportation is available by request.

We also offer the Obstacle Course as part of a fully developed team-building program themed to fit your team’s interest and goals, such as Zombie Apocalypse, Survivalist Training, Halloween Horror Show, and beyond. These packages are highly customizable and have additional fees included. We can also work with you to create something completely new from your own ideas. Just ask how this works.

Team Geocaching

Tiny treasures are hidden around The Ranch, waiting to be found by you and your team of outdoor detectives. Geocaching—the worldwide high-tech treasure hunt that combines GPS navigation skills with nature exploration and a little creative sleuthing—is perfect for friendly competition or family fun. Participants of all ages and abilities will love using our specially programmed Garmin GPS devices and clever clues to search for team tokens stashed in small "caches" placed around the property. Teams compete to collect the most tokens and earn bonus points for speed, strategy, and team spirit.

Organic Garden Scavenger Hunt

This lightly competitive and scent-ually driven activity is the perfect break from a long day of important meetings—or a great way to gather your family at the next reunion! Our Activities Staff will take you for a short walk down the hill through our Pinot Noir Vineyard to our two-acre Organic Garden for a delightful hunt through the growing beds. Each participant will be given a list of items to identify and pick, with prizes for the winners and refreshments for all. Whether working as a team or as individual contestants, the entire group will have the opportunity to enjoy a stunning view of the Valley, a complimentary glass of lavender lemonade or mug of hot cocoa, and the scents and sounds of nature in bloom all year round.

Shutterbug Photo Scavenger Hunt

Here at The Ranch, we are surrounded by scenic beauty...and some entertaining characters! Turkeys, chickens, quirky Front Desk Agents, you name it—everyone and everything is fair game for this out-of-the-box photographic scavenger hunt. Teams will be given a list of objects, poses, or people to capture on their smart phones, and the team that finishes first wins bragging rights and a cocktail at Valley Kitchen. (Alternate prizes available upon request.) Perfect for a break between events, a transition from work to play, or just a good ol' fashioned get-out-and-have fun!

Golf

At the heart of Carmel Valley Ranch's 500 acres, winding through the core of the resort from the valley floor and though the foothills, is the Carmel Valley Ranch Golf Course. As the only Pete Dye design in Northern California, the par-70 course has earned a reputation for its stunning views and friendly wildlife. It's playable for group outings and challenging enough for serious competition.

Rates include cart rental and vary by season and group size. Rental clubs available.

Night Golf

Beverage in one hand and wedge in the other, your guests can enjoy a night-time twist on traditional golf. Night Golf takes place behind our Golf Clubhouse, overlookingour beautiful 18th green and driving range. Glow-in-the-dark balls, flagsticks and greens set the tone while you and your group compete in a variety of games. Available for unlimited number of participants.

Kamikaze Golf

Join our golf professionals for this zany spin on a time-honored classic! Enjoy a 4-hole course using a variety of "golf clubs," such as Frisbees, hockey sticks, tennis rackets and more. On every tee, the group will decide the best location for the best shot, and then all shoot from that location. The team score is calculated by how many throws or hits it takes to make contact with the pin!

Archery

Nock, draw, loose! Once used by our ancestors to bring food to the cook-fires, the practice of archery is a fascinating confluence of discipline and energy, focus and stamina. With guidance from our expert instructors, you'll learn the skill and pure enjoyment that comes from target-based archery. Choose from the following packages, or call the Activities Team for a customized experience. NOTE: Sobriety is required for all archery activities.

Basic Group Archery Session

The Basic Session includes a safety briefing, equipment, individual instruction, and tips and advice from the instructor throughout the session. We promise that we'll get everyone hitting the target!

Photography Wordkshops

Learn from the best! Acclaimed photographers Kip Evans and Doug Steakley are experts in landscape photography; their stunning images have appeared in National Geographic and numerous other renowned publications. Taking a class with either of these pros will help you discover how to capture the world through your own unique lens. Both artists are in high demand and spend a good amount of time traveling, so be sure to inquire early about their availability during your stay.

Create Your Best Shot: Basics for the Modern Photographer

Do you know what sets the best photographers apart from the rest? Photo composition. In this on-property workshop, you'll learn how to create beautiful photos anytime, anywhere. We will talk about and then practice finding the right lighting, angle, and focal compositions. Bring whatever camera you use most—DSLR, smart phone, any will do!

Point Lobos Photography Excursion

Capture the extraordinary beauty of the Big Sur Coast, Pebble Beach, and Monterey Peninsula on this unforgettable adventure. Photograph breathtaking landscapes as you hike along the shores and coves of Point Lobos State Reserve, less than 30 minutes from The Ranch. Chase the shifting light along this magnificent stretch of coastline as you learn about otters, seals, pelagic birds, and other marine life in this magical meeting of land and sea.

Country Line Dancing

This ain’t the square dancing you practiced in grade school! This is Country Line Dancing, taught by our resident Country Line Dance Instructor. You’ll learn the basics of stepping in time to contemporary dance tunes and old-school country rhymes. Dance for fun, dance for the reward of learning new skills, and dance to build relationships with the people in line beside you. After just one session with our Instructor, you’ll be ready to show off your new steps at the next wedding, work party, or night on the town.

SPA AIYANA

Spa Aiyana, reflecting a Native American term for "eternal blossom," is nestled in the treetops overlooking Carmel Valley, taking its cues from the region to create an all-around luxury experience. Located adjacent to the resort's main gathering area, the Lodge and the Lodge Pool, the spa spans 10,500 square feet and has 11 treatment rooms, most of which have private outdoor terraces. Three luxurious treatment suites are grouped in the same wing, perfect for private functions or small groups. The spa also features private men's and women's locker rooms with steam saunas, as well as a co-ed Relaxation Lounge and Fitness Center. A serene nail studio offers natural nail services with breathtaking views of the valley.

GUIDED IMAGERY

A relaxed mind thinks brighter. Day in and day out, driven individuals work their minds nonstop. Studies showed that our bodies benefit from a 20-minute relaxation phase, bouncing back more creative and refreshed. "Break"-ing free with Spa Aiyana means that we send one of our Relaxation Coordinators to your meeting area and guide you through a short period of purposeful downtime. Guided imagery is just that—it uses words and music to evoke positive mental images in a subject with a view to bring a refreshed new sense to your mind. Active relaxation relieves stress yet keeps the mind primed. Ready, set, go! Your group will focus better, be more effective and accomplish more in a healthier way.

CHAIR MASSAGES

No time to visit the Spa for a full massage, but looking for tension relief? Don't worry—our certified massage therapists will come to your break area, meeting space or welcome reception, equipped with comfortable massage chairs ergonomically designed to offer full support of the head (face forward), arms, torso and legs. A workplace massage wellness program maintains a healthy, happy group that increases productivity and success.

BLENDING BAR

An interactive Spa-guided experience that brings together the highest quality organic ingredients with your childhood memories of making your own lotions and potions. Create bath salts, organic body butter, a creamy scrub, or all three, using your choice of 20 different essential oils. Then take home your creations as a luxurious memento of your experience at Carmel Valley Ranch.

Garden Walk & Cooking Demonstration

Organic Farmer Mark Marino and Executive Chef Tim Wood team up for this authentic Garden-to-Table experience. We begin in The Organic Garden with a talk from Mark about organic gardening and how to bring that garden freshness to your own dinner table. Then we move on to the Adventure Kitchen, where Chef Wood takes you through his creative process and delivers mouth-watering morsels. This event includes lunch.

Kitchen Skills Cooking Classes

Suit up, sharpen your knives, and learn the techniques that every chef should know. Executive Chef Tim Wood will teach you the tricks of the trade that will take your cooking skills to the next level and wow your guests at dinner parties. Be prepared to get to know your colleagues and friends better in the process!

$175++ per person, plus $750++ Adventure Kitchen Set-up Fee | 6–40 participants | 1.5–2 hours

Ranch Chef Challenge

Part team-bonding exercise and part culinary experience, the Ranch Chef Adventure is a truly unique event. Inspired by the popular Food Network show of a similar name, the Ranch Chef Challenge allows every participant to feel like a culinary celebrity. As the clock ticks, teams must prepare dishes using the ingredients and tools provided, including the "secret" ingredient revealed at the start of the competition. Best for groups of 20 participants or more but can be customized for smaller groups.

20-60 participants (exceptions may be available with Chef Consultation) | 2 hours | Chef's Fee & Adventure Kitchen Set-up Fee: $1,500++
Lunch Challenge: Starting at $150++ per person (includes Chef's light family-style lunch and non-alcoholic beverages)
Evening Challenge: Starting at $175++ per person (includes light hors d'oeuvres and local wine/beer selections during Challenge activity)
Dinner Addition to Evening Challenge: Starting at additional $105++ per person for a dinner menu of Chef's local favorites, plus dinner site/set-up fee (pricing dependent on guest count and location. Bar beverages may be added and charged accordingly.

Message on a Bottle: Winemaker Team-Bonding

This hands-on activity is one of our most popular events. The goal: create your very own unique wine! The group splits into teams of 4-8 people, and each team works together in sipping their way to a balanced blend of three grape varieties. Next - the Marketing Challenge. The vintners turn into the marketing team and design and produce a label for their bottle. They then present that label to the group in a 30-second commercial. Teams are scored and awarded based on teamwork, creativity, time management, following directions, and having fun. This activity is designed to inspire creativity and build camaraderie, and it can be customized to fit specific goals of the group.

Message on a Bottle with Chef's choice of stationed hors d'oeuvres and house wines: $150++ per person | 12-80 participants
Larger groups are welcome, although require additional time,space, and AV set-up. Pricing will be higher to accommodate.

Shake it Up: Mixiology Team-Bonding

Bartenders beware! In this laid back, highly entertaining event, the participants will receive a short lesson on the basics of different spirits and popular mixers, as well as some of the trade secrets of making a great cocktail. After being split into teams of 4-8 people, they will be set free behind the bar to create the next great signature cocktail. The results will be judged by a panel of professional bar flies, and awards will be given to the best tasting and most creative cocktail. To provide more depth to the team-building activity, consider adding the Marketing Challenge, in which each team creates a full-page advertisement and acts out a 30-second commercial for their signature cocktail and the fictitious bar where it will be served. This activity is sure to be talked about for a long time to come!

Sip Like a Sommelier

Our most popular wine program! Join our Wine Director and Sommelier Dave Eriksen for this engaging wine class that will develop your palate and demystify the world of wine. Each event includes a sampling of six or more wines, samplings of small bites that reflect how varietals pair with certain food flavors (sweet, salty, spicy, etc.), and seasonal topics for discussion. Perfect for all wine enthusiasts, from novice to connoisseur. Suggested themes:

Wine Tasting at the Ranch

Join us for an adventure in wine tasting, without leaving the comfort and excellent service of The Ranch! Enjoy a themed tasting palate, or select wines with the assistance of our Sommelier. This event can be held indoors or outdoors, with food or without. Suggested themes:
